Your baby's brain is growing so quickly that the head is growing faster than the body. The inner ear is starting to develop, though the outer ears won't appear for a few weeks yet.
How big is my baby at 7 weeks?
At 7 weeks your baby is about the size of a blueberry. These are typical figures from fetal growth charts. Your own baby may be bigger or smaller, and your scans are what count.
What is my baby doing at 7 weeks?
- Your baby's brain is growing so quickly that the head is growing faster than the body.
- The inner ear is starting to develop, though the outer ears won't appear for a few weeks yet.
- The limb buds are forming cartilage, which will later become the bones of the arms and legs.
- The ends of the arm buds are flattening out and will become hands.
What changes for me at 7 weeks pregnant?
- Your body is making extra blood to carry oxygen and nutrients to your baby, which can leave you feeling thirsty.
- Needing to pee more often is very common in early pregnancy.
- Tiredness and nausea may still be hard going this week.
What is a good tip for this week?
Aim for about 2 litres of fluids a day. Drink more earlier in the day and less in the late evening to cut down on night-time trips to the loo.
What can a partner do this week?
Keep a water bottle topped up and take on a few extra jobs around the house while tiredness is hitting hard.
What should I know in Ireland at 7 weeks?

- Ask your GP whether a COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for you during this pregnancy.
