How big is my baby at 14 weeks?
At 14 weeks your baby is about the size of a lemon, around 14.7 cm long and 90 g. Before about 14 weeks babies are measured from crown to rump; after that the figure is head to heel. These are typical figures from fetal growth charts. Your own baby may be bigger or smaller, and your scans are what count.
What is my baby doing at 14 weeks?
- Your baby's body is now covered in very fine, soft hair called lanugo.
- Your baby swallows small sips of the fluid around them.
- The kidneys have started working and your baby's pee goes back into the amniotic fluid.
- At a check-up, your baby's heartbeat may be picked up with a handheld monitor.
What changes for me at 14 weeks pregnant?
- You may feel twinges on the sides of your bump as the ligaments supporting your womb stretch.
- Your breasts are getting ready to make milk.
- Relationships can feel strained with so much changing, so keep talking.
What is a good tip for this week?
Start pelvic floor exercises now. Squeeze and lift the muscles you'd use to hold in a pee, hold for a few seconds, then relax.
