How big is my baby at 11 weeks?
At 11 weeks your baby is about the size of a kiwi fruit, around 4.2 cm long. Before about 14 weeks babies are measured from crown to rump; after that the figure is head to heel. These are typical figures from fetal growth charts. Your own baby may be bigger or smaller, and your scans are what count.
What is my baby doing at 11 weeks?
- The bones of the face have formed and the eyelids are closed for now.
- Your baby's head makes up about a third of their length.
- Fingers and toes are separating and fingernails have formed.
- The placenta is developing quickly, ready to take over feeding your baby.
What changes for me at 11 weeks pregnant?
- As your womb grows, the muscles and ligaments around it stretch, which can cause some aches.
- Your body is pumping much more blood than usual, so you may feel hot, sweaty or a bit dizzy.
- Hormone changes can leave you tired and emotional.
What is a good tip for this week?
Get up slowly from sitting or lying down and keep a drink and a snack with you when you're out.
What can a partner do this week?
Go to the dating scan together if you can, but check first as most units allow one support person.
What should I know in Ireland at 11 weeks?
- All pregnant women in Ireland are offered a dating scan, which should happen before 15 weeks. It checks the heartbeat, your due date, your baby's size and whether there's more than one baby.
- Arrive for the dating scan with a full bladder. Recording the scan on a phone isn't allowed and printed photos fade in sunlight or if laminated.
