How do parents know what happened at creche today?

What the daily report covers, what it leaves out and how to keep one record of your baby's day across home and creche.

In short

Most creches give parents a daily report of feeds, naps, nappies and meals, on paper or through whichever app the creche has chosen. That report covers the creche hours only. For the full picture, add the creche's headlines to your own record at pickup: Lullagram's Log from creche quick action does it in a few taps, so your baby's whole day, home and creche, sits on one timeline both parents can see.

  • The daily report is the creche's record, in the creche's format, for creche hours.
  • Your own record spans the morning bottle, the creche day and the night, in one place.
  • Log from creche adds the day's naps, feeds and nappies at pickup in a few taps.
  • The evening handover between parents reads from the same timeline.
  • The HSE vaccine schedule and PHN visit guides live in the same app.

The pickup question is always the same: how was she? The answer, most days, is a daily report of some kind: how long the naps were, what went down at lunch, how many nappies. Where that report lands depends on the creche: a printed sheet in the bag, a note at the door or an update in whichever app the creche has chosen to run. The report is genuinely useful. It is also, on its own, only half the day.

What does a creche tell parents about the day?

A good creche tells you plenty. For babies and young toddlers, the daily report usually covers feeds and bottles with rough times, nap start and end, nappies, meals and how the day went, plus anything notable: a bump, a new word, a sock gone missing in action. A creche must tell parents about their child's day and about any accident or incident, and the good ones make a warm little ritual of it at pickup.

How it arrives is the creche's call. Some use paper sheets, some a whiteboard at the door and many use a childcare app the creche has chosen for its own records and parent updates. Whatever the format, it is the creche's system, run by the creche, for the hours your child is there.

What is missing from the creche's report?

Your baby's day did not start at drop-off. There was a bottle at half six, a short nap in the car and there will be a feed, a bath and a night ahead, none of which the creche can see, just as you cannot see the morning room. The creche's record and your record each cover half the day, in two different places and two different formats, and neither half answers the questions that span the whole day. Will she sleep tonight after two long naps? Has he fed less this week, or does it just feel that way?

There is also the longer game. Creche records stay with the creche, and children change rooms and change creches. The record worth keeping for the PHN visit, the GP and your own peace of mind is the one in your own hands, across every setting, for the whole first years. That is the gap a parent's own tracker fills, and it is a different job from the creche's software, not a replacement for it.

How do I keep one record across home and creche?

Log the home parts as they happen, as you already do, and add the creche's headlines at pickup. Lullagram's Log from creche quick action is built for exactly that minute in the car park: a few taps to enter the naps, feeds and nappies from the daily report, marked as having happened at creche. Thirty seconds, and the whole day is on one timeline.

You do not need every detail, just the ones you actually use: nap times for tonight's bedtime maths, feeds for the weekly pattern, nappies if you are keeping an eye on something. The daily totals and weekly patterns then include creche days instead of showing five mysterious blanks a week.

How does the evening handover between parents work?

Whoever did pickup logs the creche headlines; whoever has the evening reads them. Both parents see the same timeline live, so the parent walking in at six knows the last feed and the nap situation without a debrief. The handover summary shows the last 8 hours on one screen, which on a creche day means the afternoon at creche plus the drive home, exactly what the evening shift needs.

It is the same rhythm that works with grandparents and minders: one shared record, whoever happens to be holding the baby.

How do vaccines and PHN visits fit in?

Starting creche usually lands in the same stretch of the first year as vaccine doses and PHN visits, and the creche will ask about illness policies while the PHN asks about feeds and sleep. Lullagram keeps the HSE childhood vaccine schedule, worked out from your baby's date of birth, and guides to the PHN visits in the same app as the day's logs, so the health calendar and the daily record live together. Our guide to the Irish vaccine schedule walks through the doses, and when to keep your child home from creche covers the sick days.

Does Lullagram replace the creche's software?

No, and it does not try to. The creche picks and runs its own system, and Lullagram does not connect to it. Lullagram is the parent's own record: your baby's whole day across home and creche, on one timeline, shared between both parents, yours for as long as you want it. The two sit happily side by side, the creche's record for the creche and yours for you.

So my partner put me on to this app, and I shrugged whatever. I couldn't have been more wrong. To keep track of anything in the newborn stage with lack of sleep, this app does it all and is easy to use. Can't recommend enough for new parents
